Implant Dentistry

Implant dentistry allows doctors to help patients who are missing teeth. If you live in Winter Park, Altamonte Springs, or surrounding areas and are thinking about getting dental implants, our doctors can help. You can have fully-functional and natural-looking replacement teeth with dental implants from NL&C Dentistry.

Dental implants are titanium posts that are set below the gum line to replace damaged roots where teeth are missing. Dental implants anchor tooth replacements, including single tooth replacements and full sets. With dental implants, artificial teeth don’t need to rely on surrounding natural teeth for support. This helps you avoid the risk of receding gums that accompanies traditional artificial teeth. In addition, dental implants stop bone loss, strengthen your bite, and help to preserve your facial bone structure. For patients who have lost all their teeth, we offer implant dentistry that will support, secure, and retain a full set of dentures.

Ideal candidates for dental implants are individuals who have healthy gums and sufficient bone mass below the gums. If you live in or near Winter Park or Altamonte Springs and would like to learn more about dental implants, we invite you to contact our cosmetic dentists today to find out how we can help you achieve a more beautiful new smile.

Crowns

Dental crowns effectively address a number of dental issues including misaligned, cracked, decayed, or otherwise damaged teeth. At NL&C Dentistry, we can correct these problems with high-quality crowns that fit securely over the damaged tooth to restore structural integrity and aesthetic appearance.

Crowns can help support and protect teeth, and prevent them from suffering further damage. Because dental crowns also help to prevent further decay, chipping, and other damage from occurring, they can also improve the appearance of your smile.

Placing Dental Crowns

Placing a dental crown is a two-step process, beginning with an exam, X-rays, and preparation of the tooth for the crown. Typically, the affected tooth and gum area will be numbed. Once the tooth has been sufficiently prepped, the doctor makes an impression of the tooth, sends the impression to a lab, and has the crown made. The doctor will place a temporary crown over prepped tooth to protect it until the permanent crown is ready for placement.

During your second office visit, your temporary crown will be removed and replaced with the permanent one. The doctor will first check the fit of your new crown and make any necessary adjustments before cementing it.

Bridges

Traditional metal bridges — the type that reveal unsightly, black telltale lines right at the gum line — are a thing of the past. We specialize in dental implants and porcelain bridges, which can fill in missing-tooth spaces with natural-looking artificial teeth, correct speaking and chewing problems, and increase strength when biting. Dental implants and bridges replace missing teeth so that the mouth can function comfortably and properly, and look completely natural.

Placing Dental Bridges

The placement of a dental bridge is usually a two-step process, requiring two office visits. During the first office visit, the teeth are prepared for the fitting of the bridge by cleaning away plaque and decay in the areas to be treated. The affected area is usually numbed before beginning this process. An impression of your teeth is made and sent to a lab where the crowns that make up the bridge will be customized for you. Before your permanent bridge is placed, a temporary bridge will be fitted for you.

During your second office visit, your temporary bridge is replaced with your new, permanent bridge. The doctor will fit the new bridge, making sure your bite is correct before placing it in the mouth for permanent use.

Custom Dentures

Custom dentures are a popular option for patients who have lost some or all of their natural teeth. We make custom dentures that precisely fit the patient’s mouth and provide excellent comfort and functionality. NL&C Dentistry offers both partial and full custom dentures. At our Winter Park area practice, we combine advanced dental implants with our custom dentures for the best possible fit and stability.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are an option for patients who have lost only some of their teeth. Partial dentures are strong and are adequate replacements for missing teeth. When properly fitted, the dentures are almost impossible to distinguish from natural teeth. We make partial dentures so that they correspond to the size and shape of the patient’s mouth. We also match the color of the new dentures to the patient’s existing teeth to provide a natural look that is aesthetically pleasing.

Full dentures

For people who have lost all of their teeth, full dentures are ideal. With full dentures supported by dental implants, patients can have a new full set of teeth. Implant-supported full dentures restore the ability to eat favorite foods, and to speak and laugh comfortably. Because full dentures are matched to the size and shape of the patient’s mouth, they look like natural teeth. Full dentures also maintain jaw line definition, and the implants prevent the bone loss that inevitably occurs with traditional dentures.

Endodontics / Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is essential for people who have infection of the dental pulp. Dental pulp is the soft interior part of a tooth that contains the nerves and provides teeth with nutrients. If the dental pulp is damaged or becomes infected, the root nerve of the tooth can die. If left untreated, the tooth will also die and need to be removed. Painful abscesses may also form if the damaged pulp is not properly treated; abscesses can cause damage to surrounding bone. Root canal therapy saves teeth with damaged dental pulp from further damage.

During treatment, a drill is used to create access through the tooth crown and down into the pulp chamber so that the damaged pulp may be removed. The remaining pulp in the chamber is then reshaped to facilitate the sealing of the tooth. Anesthesia is typically administered before this procedure so that the patient experiences little or no discomfort during treatment. Medications may also be introduced into the pulp chamber and root canal to prevent further infection. The treated tooth is then permanently sealed with a crown. Root canal therapy may take more than one office visit, depending on the extent of the damage to the tooth.

Comprehensive and Preventive Dental Care

To maintain good overall oral health, routine care and regular visits to the dentist are essential. We offer routine and preventative dental services for the whole family. Routine cleanings, X-rays, and exams help keep teeth and gums healthy and prevent cavities and other damage. For children, we offer a full range of preventative care including fluoride treatments and sealants specifically designed to protect developing teeth.

In addition, our doctors treat patients suffering from periodontal disease — otherwise know as gum disease — which can have adverse effects on overall oral health. Caused by bacteria found in plaque, gum disease most often occurs in patients who neglect routine oral care. Common symptoms of gum disease are swollen, red, and bleeding gums or a receding gum line. If left untreated, gum disease can result in tooth loss. We treat gum disease with a deep cleaning below the gum line to remove plaque and calculus deposits that lead to bacterial growth and bone loss. Depending on the stage and severity of gum disease, further treatment may be required.
